GCR South LOGO

GCR is a Christ based, Jesus-centered recovery group which meets to encourage and walk with people who are struggling under the weight of SIN and addiction, (Gal. 6:2, Col. 3:12), with the Hope of the Gospel, (Ro.10:9-13, 1Cor 15:1-4).

We believe in the sufficiency of Scripture, (2 Tim. 3:16-17), and we rely upon the Bible as the primary source for true addiction recovery.

We have a desire to see people come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, (Luke 19:10), forming a personal relationship with Him, (John 15:5). We want to bring glory to Jesus Christ in all we do and help others to do the same, (1 Cor. 10:31). In so doing we help people grow and change (1 Pet. 3:18, 1 Jn.1:5-7), walking with people through this change process (1 Thess. 4:1). To the Glory of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (Jude 24-25)!

The Bible is our primary textbook because …

The Bible, itself, tells us that “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may  be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.”  II Timothy 3:16-17 (NKJV)

Scripture” (the cannon) includes all 66 books of the Old and New Testaments.

“inspiration” means “God-breathed,” meaning God divinely influenced the human authors of Scripture so that what they wrote were the very words of God. II Peter 1:20-21

“doctrine” explains the gospel and all that faith involves.

”reproof” is like a scolding for something you’re doing wrong. It’s God telling you He disapproves of your attitudes and actions

“correction” sets something right. The Bible reveals and corrects wrong thinking, feelings, and actions. It sets them right.

“righteousness” is knowing right from wrong and doing what’s right.

“complete” means perfectly related to God because of Jesus’ finished work on the cross.

“thoroughly equipped” means prepared and ready to serve others.

THE BIBLE IS OUR TEXTBOOK FOR GOSPEL RECOVERY GROUPS

The Bible contains everything we need for life and godliness.

  • When you’re lost or looking for help, you want the best advice or direction you can get. It only makes sense to get your advice directly from God, who knows absolutely everything about everything. He is the highest authority on every subject. Psalm147:5

  • If you want to know history, you pick up a history book. But if you want answers to life’s  problems and you want to learn how to live an addiction free life, you must go to God and His Word. God’s Word has answers that will change your life. We need no other argument or opinion.

  • Because Jesus said in John 14:26 that “the Helper, the Holy Spirit. Whom the Father will send in My (Jesus) name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I have said to you.” The Holy Spirit works in our hearts and minds to help us understand God’s Words. It’s just like having your own private tutor. No other book has that benefit.

  • Even if the language of the Bible seems new and difficult to understand, ask God to help you understand. James 1:5 says, “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.”

  • We teach and encourage group members to search the Scriptures for direction in their lives and to rely on the Word of God to lead and teach them how to live an addiction free life. To do this, they must learn to handle God’s Word for themselves. II Timothy 3:16-17
